Fear – Ode to Moda Lissa

I stole the first word of my headline. In fact, I’m practically stealing an entire post that I just read on another blogger’s site, but reading it gave me such a huge AHA moment it, it became the inspiration for this post. I thought I’d better get busy writing before I lost my nerve. (Note to self: try NOT to over analyze this blog post. Just write.) You see, I suffer from Analysis Paralysis. I read about this over at Moda Lissa. I’m still in shock. First, let me explain (although you should really read her post, because it’s awesome), Wikipedia defines analysis paralysis as “the state of over-analyzing (or over-thinking) a situation so that a decision or action is never taken, in effect paralyzing the outcome.” Yep. That pretty much sums things up on this side of the screen.

I’ve been working on this issue the past few months. I knew know I had have a problem, but it’s strange how life says “DO SOMETHING,” and just puts it out there in front of you. Over and over and over again. Lately, it seems like every class I take or book I read comes back to this issue and they all keep telling me the same thing: Just Do It. Yeah, like the Nike logo, but for bloggers. And of course, after reading Lissa’s post, even then I have to start analyzing and researching. After my AHA moment hit, I rushed off to study it and check out this very shortened screen shot from Pinterest:

Fear + analysis-paralysis

(pondering thought) Why does it always feel so much better to know we are not alone with our problems?

I’m still in awe that I share a personality trait (besides quilting) with Moda Lissa, although I never would  have guessed this if she hadn’t written it herself.  I mean really! She’s a blog celebrity. She’s one of the Moda Movie Stars, a name my sister and I started using after attending Moda Schoolhouse at Market a year back in KC. It was all we could do not to go around the entire group and get their autographs. They should really use that as their theme at Market some time.

Oops! I digress…….how could Lissa suffer from stage fright? Then I look at myself. College grad with a major in communications (plus a second in education).  A decade dedicated to journalism. Yes. W-R-I-T-I-N-G. It’s what I did. Now look at me. Writer’s block. Fear. Over-analysis. I swear I love that word. I’m re-pinning half that page on to my One Little Word Pinterest page for Balance.

So. I’m going to follow Lissa’s lead. While she is writing posts for her mother, I’m going to start writing mine as if I were emailing a friend. I’m going to share what’s going on in life, my current sewing projects, my latest learning adventure, blog or fabric crushes……and yes (head hanging low), this post took me ages to write. I don’t know how many times I edited before shaking my head and saying let it go!!!
