Celebrating Birthdays with Craftsy

I promised many of you a post on the Crossroads Quilt Along, but today my focus is on celebrating birthdays with Craftsy. A visit back here tomorrow will find a new post with the mini measurements for Block 4 of the Quilt Along.

Turns out May is not only my birthday month, but also Craftsy’s. To celebrate, those folks are offering specials all month long. Today starts a sale on classes, up to 50% off, and I’m off to spend some birthday money! What girl doesn’t love a sale?

I’ve studied everything from quilting to crochet, photography, garment alteration, reupholstering, gardening. I took a count of how many Craftsy classes I’ve enrolled in.

(Hello. My name is Sondra. I am a Craftsy Addict.)

Today I’m headed over to check out the cooking category. I’ve got two classes on my list. First up is Cook More, Weigh Less with Allison Task.

A little history here.

Last year I lost nearly 40 pounds by counting every calorie I put in my mouth and ruthlessly cutting processed carbs from my diet. Once I hit my goal weight, I slipped back into old cooking and eating habits and find I’m slowly gaining back weight. Again. Been on this path since I was nine years old. I’m hoping a class on good, basic, healthy cooking and eating my put me on a path to sustained success.

I’m also considering The Everyday Gourmet: Rediscovering the Lost Art of Cooking by The Great Courses. My cooking is mediocre at best, which might explain my poor eating habits. Growing up on a farm with a stay-at-home mom and a grandmother next door, it didn’t leave much need for me to be in the kitchen. Maybe I can pick up a few pointers.

Craftsy offers free mini courses. If you enjoy the idea of learning new techniques, sharing with an online community and the convenience of taking classes where you want and when you want, you’ll enjoy the Craftsy community. I’d love to hear any suggestions on classes you’ve already taken!

  1. Happy Birthday, good luck with the weight loss. I know just how you feel, but I have decided to accept how I look and leave well enough alone. Enjoy your new class.

    1. Thank you for the birthday wishes! I know how you feel about acceptance. I seem to go through phases, but at this moment the focus is on eating healthy and losing, or I’m not going to fit in my summer clothes. Lol!
