Original Bloom-Topia Quilt Makes a Stop in Kansas
Last weekend, I had the most awesome package arrive on my doorstop – the original quilt from Fat Quarter Shop’s 2020 Bloom-Topia Quilt Along!
The pictures of the quilt on FQS’s web site are gorgeous, but sweet “Bloom” (my nickname for the quilt) was even more beautiful in person, so much so, I had to pop her in the car with me and take her to my guild meeting as soon as I unpacked her!
I’m a board member and webmaster for the Kansas Longarm Quilters, and Saturday was our meeting. Although I couldn’t take credit for making Bloom, it was so much fun photographing her with some of the members and telling them all about the 2020 Bloom-Topia Quilt Along.
The gorgeous quilting was done by longarmer Gina Tell of Thread Graffiti, and I think she would have enjoyed hearing all the praise from a room full of fellow longarm quilters!
I especially loved showing our members the label that was traveling with Bloom. I was last on Bloom’s road trip as she visited each quilter who was “blogging along,” and we each signed a quilt label traveling with her.
Those signing the label include Bloom’s fabric designers (Sherri & Chelsi) and these bloggers:
Chelsi Stratton (@chelsistratton) | Sherri McConnell, A Quilting Life (@aquiltinglife) |
Melissa Corry, Happy Quilting (@happyquiltingmc) | Pat Sloan, Pat Sloan’s Blog (@quilterpatsloan) |
Sondra (me!), Out of the Blue Quilts (@sondradavison) | Taunja Kelvington, Carried Away Quilting (@taunjalynn) |
On the way home, I could resist taking a few more pics of Bloom, draped over my neighbor’s garden fence. It had snowed just a day or so prior, and everything was still dreary outside, but Bloom brightened things up considerably. (And yes, I draped a sheet over the fence, underneath Bloom, just in case you were wondering!!)
By Monday, Bloom was wrapped up tight for Mr. UPS, who escorted her on the final trip back home to Fat Quarter Shop.
I can’t wait to share my blocks with you over the next few months. I’ve worked ahead to the point that all of them are now complete and assembly is next. Having Bloom visit gave me a spurt of energy and inspiration!

All About the Bloom-Topia Quilt Along
Starting February 1, 2020, Fat Quarter Shop releases two patterns each month for six months on their blog. Simply follow along to know when the patterns are posted! FQS will also be filming free complementary videos for each pattern.
With all our help, we can reach the goal of $30,000 in donations towards Make-A-Wish Central & South Texas! With each donation, we’re getting closer to the goal of granting FIVE wishes, and closer to releasing a new finishing pattern.
Just a reminder that this year’s QAL benefits Make-A-Wish Central & South Texas. Fat Quarter Shop offers all of the patterns for free, but offers the opportunity to make a $5 donation per pattern download to support Make-A-Wish. All proceeds from the pattern downloads will be donated to Make-A-Wish Central & South Texas, with Moda Fabrics partnering along. To learn more about the cause you can view this Make-A-Wish video.
Be sure to follow the Bloom-Topia’s Quilt Along’s web page which includes all patterns and video tutorials, Facebook, and Instagram!
