Bittersweet finish…

My mother, Chelsea, has suffered from Alzheimer's the past two years. Every Saturday, my sisters and I faithfully make the trip to the home where she stays to visit with her. Recently, she was diagnosed with congestive heart failure, which took an unexpected turn last week. This Saturday's trip was different. Mom stayed in bed while we chattered away to her, not sure that she could hear.

On Saturday, I took this small lap quilt with me.  I had made it several years ago, but never finished the binding. I told mom that I would work on it and that she needed to get better by the time I finished. As the days progressed, so did her illness. Shortly after 2pm today, I leaned over and kissed her….told her the quilt was finished. I gently laid it under her hand, hoping she could feel the binding, knowing her love of fabric was even stronger than my own, hoping she could feel my love through it.

I think she did. At 2:40pm my dear mother went to be with her Lord and to reunite with my dad. Love and miss them both so much.
