I’m Sondra, and Out of the Blue is my corner of the internet!
I’m the voice, designer and quilter behind Out of the Blue. I create quilts, take photos of them, write the patterns up and soon will be adding video tutorials and online classes.
I live in Kansas, USA, and have an unhealthy obsession with all things fabric and my cats, (an ever growing number of rescued fur babies featured throughout my photos).

A bit about me…
Born and raised in the Midwest, my greatest artistic inspiration was growing up on our family farm, surrounded by loved ones who all had an itch to create. Whether it be from fabric, yarn, wood, or even the art of filling jars with home grown vegetables to be eaten in a later season, it was bliss. And I was blessed.
In my previous life, I worked in newspaper and magazine publishing, became a high school English/Journalism teacher, and concluded with a management position over quality and process improvement for a major aerospace company. Though I thoroughly enjoyed my all my careers, I wanted to pursue a future where my passion really lies – quilting.
Today, I’m extremely fortunate to be able to say that I make a living doing what I truly love – creating and sharing my quilt patterns and classes with people from all over the world.
The patterns on my blog draw on my ever evolving obsession with how to take common quilting techniques and break them down into the fewest, fastest steps possible. I create designs that look so complicated and turn them into beginner level projects.
I want to show you how to make amazing quilts using the Fun, Fast & Finished techniques I’ve mastered over the years. Beautiful quilts with the “wow” factor that are fun to make, and fast to finish.
