Folks, it makes me sad – we are on block eight of Fat Quarter Shop’s 2019 Threadology Quilt Along and I’m still not sure how we are nearly at the end. Of course, that leaves me itching to start new
UFOs projects and quilt alongs!
#8 – Cross With a Cross Block
This is the only Threadology block that I completely flubbed and had to take apart. The instructions are clear and straight forward, so my advice is simply this: read the instructions first. All of them. Sometimes my fingers and sewing machine get to moving quicker than my eyes, meaning I didn’t take a good look at the instructions this time. Stitch. Rip. Repeat. Grrr…..
It was an easy fix, but I frustrate myself when it’s an easy pattern, and I zoom right through only to have to repair. The nice thing for me is that I always do the big block first, so I didn’t make the same mistake on the next four smaller blocks.
2- Block Preparation
I have everything ready on my design boards! You would think that would eliminate sewing error (haha)! The big block is on one board, the smaller blocks on another.
When this quilt is finished, I think I’m going to need a full day to do nothing but clean and organize in here. I keep my sewing surface cleared while working, but everything else in this room is a disaster.
Once I read the directions thoroughly, everything went together smoothly!
I can’t wait until our next Threadology post to share all the blocks put together and the backing!
Just a reminder that this year’s QAL benefits Make-A-Wish Central & South Texas. Fat Quarter Shop offers all of the patterns for free, but offers the opportunity to make a $5 donation per pattern download to support Make-A-Wish. All proceeds from the pattern downloads will be donated to Make-A-Wish Central & South Texas, with Moda Fabrics partnering along. To learn more about the cause you can view this Make-A-Wish video.
